Back there, before Jim Crow, before the invention of the Negro or the white man or the words and concepts to describe them, the Colonial population consisted largely of a great mass of white and black bondsmen, who occupied roughly the same economic category and were treated with equal contempt by the lords of the plantations and legislatures. The use of slaves in southern agriculture was a deliberate choice (among several alternatives) made by men who sought greater returns than they could obtain from their own labor alone, and who found other types of labor more expensiveвЂ¦вЂќ вЂњcannot be attributed to some deadly atmospheric miasma or some irresistible force in the SouthвЂ™s economic evolution. This was, as Kenneth Stampp so cogently observed, a deliberate choice among several alternatives. The race problem in America was a deliberate invention of men who systematically separated blacks and whites in order to make money. In the beginning, as we have seen, there was no race problem in America. There was another road - but that road wasnвЂ™t taken. What makes this all the more mournful is that it didnвЂ™t have to happen that way. And that decision, which was made in the 1660s and elaborated over a two-hundred-year period, foreclosed certain possibilities in America - perhaps forever - and set off depth charges that are still echoing and re-echoing in the commonwealth. Fork by fork, step by step, option by option, America or, to be more precise, the men who spoke in the name of America decided that it was going to be a white place defined negatively by the bodies and the blood of the reds and the blacks. So this poem appeals to me because I have chosen the road less traveled and that has made all the difference.America became America that way. I am also proud that I studied in high school because of all the opportunities that keeping good grades have brought me. I have met countless people involved in agricultural who have touched my life. I do not regret my choices because they have affected my life greatly. I was also criticized in high school for being the smart kid and for not partying with the popular crowd. Many believe that I do not belong in either and that I am not man enough to handle my cattle or the job I have chosen for my future career. I also show cattle, which is dominated by men. For example, I am a girl majoring in an agricultural field that is considered by most to be a manвЂ™s field. Many of the choices I have made were the roads less traveled by others. I love this poem mainly because I can relate to the figurative side of the poem.

The person must choose between the choices many make or the choice that few make. The traveler cannot come back to the other road and as in life if a choice is made, it is impossible to redo. The person takes the time to consider both choices and all sides to them by examining the paths. The traveler is a person who has two choices, which are represented in the poem by the two roads in the woods. Figuratively, вЂњThe Road Not TakenвЂќ can be applied to a personвЂ™s life. The poem ends by the traveler stating that his choosing the road less traveled has made all the difference.
